Web Finds

The Web site of The American Orchid Society offers an online introduction to the art and science of growing orchids, plus it provides extensive reference material in its archive. Beside information on joining the society, there is a bookstore, listings of upcoming regional orchid shows, conservation and research news, forum discussions, and other resources.

Orchids General and Specific
For beginning orchid growers, the revision of the time-tested Ortho's All About Orchids by Elvin McDonald (Ortho Books, 1999) continues to give a basic understanding of growing orchids, focusing on the eighteen groups of most popular orchids. For those specifically interested in phalaenopsis orchids, the revised edition of Mary Noble's Can Grow Phalaenopsis Orchids McQuerry Orchid Books, 1998, $12.95) delivers practical how-to advice on all aspects of choosing and growing them.
