Clever Gardening Technique

Drain Waterlogged Pots Quickly
If you see standing water in one of your outdoor container plants you need to act quickly. Most likely the drain hole is plugged, but more immediate action is required. Turn the pot on its side and allow it to rest in that position overnight. Meanwhile, use an old kitchen knife to ream out the drain hole of any clogging debris. Plants left in standing water will literally drown from lack of oxygen.

Shows & Events

Pacific Orchid Expo
One of my favorite garden shows is the Pacific Orchid Expo held at Fort Mason Festival Pavilion. There are plants to buy, plants to admire, and beautiful orchid art to be had. Experts will be on hand to instruct and demonstrate various orchid cultivation techniques. Join fellow orchid fanciers at this fabulous event!

The 57th Annual Pacific Orchid Exposition, "Green With Envy," is presented by The San Francisco Orchid Society (SFOS) at Fort Mason Center's Festival Pavilion on Friday, March 6, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 8, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. General admission is $12 in advance and $14 at the door; seniors $8 in advance, $10 at the door; kids 12 & under free when accompanied by an adult (except at preview night).
