Favorite or New Plant

Amur Maple
One of the outstanding characteristics of Amur maple (Acer ginnala) is its brilliant red foliage in autumn. The winged samara seeds are quite attractive in the summer and will persist through the winter. The foliage is a handsome dark, glossy green. It's smaller size is desirable for a tree that will occupy a patio setting, or for screening, grouping, accenting a blank wall of the house or garden shed, or gracing the entry way.

Clever Gardening Technique

Coax Bromeliad to Bloom
If you have a bromeliad plant that has stopped producing blooms, or started a pineapple top, you can coax them to bloom with an apple. Place the bromeliad or pineapple plant, pot and all, inside a clear plastic bag with an apple for a week to ten days. The ethylene gas given off by the apple will induce the plants to send out a flower bud. Keep the plants in moderate to filtered sunlight during this process.
