Frost Dates for Selected Cities
I checked two references for average last frost dates for several New England cities. The first date is the data from Foridata; the second from Victory Seeds. As you can see, the date varies by as much as a month -- a good reminder that it's just an approximation. If you like weather statistics, check out the Freeze/Frost Occurrence Data from the National Climatic Data Center Web site. However, your best bet is to consult an experienced gardener in your neighborhood, and be prepared to protect plants for a few weeks after planting.

Allergy-Free Gardening
In Allergy-Free Gardening (Ten Speed Press, 2000; $23), author Thomas Ogren examines the role that urban landscaping plays in the increasing problems with allergies. This extensively researched, comprehensive, plant-by-plant reference helps gardeners and landscapers make educated choices about what to plant.
