Favorite or New Plant

Japanese Lantern
No, not the flowering maple that sometimes goes by this common name, though abutilons are very nice. This one's Hibiscus schizopetalus, whose name alone attracted me to check it out. Its long bloom period and happy spreading habit were the clinchers. The flowers reflect the Latin name with petals that are cut into narrow curvy blossoms and long slender stamens that are an elegant version of a "Kiss" tongue. Flower color varies in hue from almost pink to almost salmon, with apricot overtones. As the kids say, "Sweet!"
