Favorite or New Plant

Narrow-Leafed Zinnia
Though an annual in habit, Zinnia angustifolia is a dependable, tireless blooming annual in hot, dry locations and full sun. My favorite is the bright orange variety, though there are dirty white versions as well. Flowers are smaller than State Fair zinnia, but the single-petaled, one-inch blooms make up for their smaller stature with their prolific flowering. Plants have a mounding habit up to 12 inches tall and nearly as wide. They do well in container gardens as well. Give them a try for a colorful display.

Tool or Gardening Product

Pot Lifter
Last year's annual garden symposium had some really interesting and useful tools; one was the Pot Lifter. Heavy-duty strapping with handles snugs around heavy outdoor or indoor containers, big rocks, or other bulky items, and makes lifting them easier, without putting out your back. It takes two people to get a good grip and move the object with relative ease. Sells for around $28.88. For more information, visit:
