Container Plants: For Patios, Balconies, and Window Boxes
As an avid container gardener, I'm always on the lookout for good books on the subject. Container Plants, by Halina Heitz (Barron's Educational Series, 1992; $26.95) is one of the best I've read, and one that I refer to again and again. It covers everything from propagation to harvesting, plantings for each season, diseases and pests, a glossary of terms, and a source list of reference books and plant societies.

The text is easy to follow, making it ideal for beginning gardeners, but it contains enough detailed information to satisfy experienced container gardeners. One of my favorite features is the tip at the end of each plant profile that gives ideas for decorating with the plant. The color photos show interesting combinations of colors and textures and provide inspiration to follow the author's lead or choose your own plant combinations.

All in all, this book is an excellent investment!
