Butterflies LIVE!
The Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia, is celebrating its 25th anniversary throughout 2009 with a wide assortment of events, but particularly fun is the Butterflies LIVE! exhibit that runs from May 22 to October 11. It features hundreds of tropical butterflies in the North Wing of the Conservatory, where you can walk in their midst and learn about them. Hardy Succulents
Even with the easiest to grow of plants, it helps to have good gardening information so that you give your plants the best possible environment. With the increasing popularity of sedums, sempervivums, and other succulents, a book written for the North American climate was needed. Hardy Succulents: Tough Plants for Every Climate, by Gwen Kelaidis (Storey Publishing, 2008, $19.95), fulfills that need by giving gardeners information on how to select, grow, and maintain these unusual, beautiful plants. Step-by-step growing instructions, practical care tips, and creative ideas for use combined with the stunning photos by Saxon Holt make this book not only very useful but also a pleasure.
