American Garden Award
American Garden Award is a national competition to vote for your favorite flower by Sept. 8. The top three most popular flowers -- based on your votes -- will be introduced this fall as American Garden Award winners. The botanical gardens to view the new introductions are south, west, and northeast of the Mid-Atlantic region. If you're traveling though, this could be a great reason to visit these lovely gardens.

Construction/Paint Buckets
Five-gallon plastic paint or construction buckets with handles are quite versatile garden gear. We cart pruners, trowels, weeders, and cultivators in them. For weeding, we put used plastic bags (from mulch, fertilizer, soil mix) in them, then toss in weeds as we move through the beds. That size/shape bucket is easy to maneuver among plants. It seldom gets too heavy with debris to lift. In a pinch, we use them as watering cans. They stack and store conveniently in the work van.
