LA Garden Show Living Green: Essentials for the Home Gardener
Friday, April 30, through Sunday, May 2, 9am-4pm, the LA County Arboretum and Botanic Garden will host the largest outdoor gardening event on the West Coast. It will highlight innovative and environmentally responsible garden design and gardening practices through exhibits, workshops, lectures, demonstrations, plants, books, and information. Topics include edible gardens, California-friendly plants, composting, and making water-wise choices. Plants for sale include vegetables, herbs, fruit trees, cacti, succulents, California natives, and flowering favorites. Plant experts will share information. For more information visit

Clever Gardening Technique

Small Buckets as Compost or Trash Collectors
Place a few paint or other 5-gallon-size buckets throughout the garden as handy waste baskets. Two can be left in the same area -- one for items destined for the compost pile, and the other for items for the trash.
