Clever Gardening Technique

Keep Cool
Always wear a hat with a wide brim when working in the sun. The brim should be broad enough to completely shade your face and neck. Sorry, but a baseball cap just won't do the trick. A cloth hat can be worn wet to act as an air conditioner. Water cools as it evaporates. My favorite summer hat was a pith helmet, a gift from a friendly mail carrier. It had a cloth covering that could be made wet, plus an inner band that kept the hat off the surface of my head to allow for maximum air circulation. I may not have looked too cool, but I felt cool!
