'Winter King' Hawthorn
This magnificent tree has the best of all hawthorn characteristics. Yes, it has thorns, but not many. Its silvery, flaking bark is spectacular in winter, especially accompanied by the abundant, reddish-orange fruits that hang on until February. The plant is carefree, simply asking for a full-sun site with well-drained soil. It will spread its branches to forty feet, so be sure to give it plenty of room.
