Clever Gardening Technique

Keep Your Native Plants During Construction
If you have a blank lot and are building a new home, don't automatically scrape the land clear of valuable plant material. Take time to consider how existing trees, shrubs and specimen plants can work in your final plan. Create a barrier around plants to serve as a reminder to construction workers. Take care not to damage roots with digging or heavy equipment compressing the soil. Packing the soil densely inhibits air and water flow, both essential for root health.
