This section of National Gardening Association's website is not just for kids, despite its name! Here you'll find activities, events and inspiration on lots of levels that work very well with beginning gardeners in every generation. If you are a classroom teacher or volunteer, this is the place to connect with the community, get curriculum and lesson plans, and even take an online course. Bookmark this one: Kids Gardening.

Thrifty Gardening
Marjorie Harris is a columnist for the Toronto Globe and Mail and is widely regarded as the voice of gardening in Canada. Her new book, Thrifty: Living the frugal life with style, could not be more aptly named nor better timed. You'll love the book for its chapter called "Thrifty Gardening", which is jam-packed with very good ideas (except the idea to use Irish Spring soap to repel deer- that irritated me much more than the deer). But the rest of the book is wonderful, too, with topics from how to haggle and shop for fashion deals to great ways to travel frugally and fabulously. From House of Anansi Press, May, 2010, 232 ppg., $15.95.
