Idaho Landscapes and Gardens
It's summer in the Rockies and time for the march of insects in the garden; their goal is to eat and breed. A useful website to get answers to yard and garden pests in this region is the Idaho Extension Service. Here you'll find regional tips to keep a healthy landscape.

Clever Gardening Technique

Make a slanting cut on the stems to expose more surface area for greater water absorption. This slanted cut orientation will also keep the stems from sealing off when they sit at the bottom of the vase. Carry a bucket of tepid water in the garden when you cut so the stems can be placed in water immediately after cutting. Let the cut flowers sit in the water for a half hour or more in a cool, shaded location before handling for arranging.
