Step-On Bulb Planter
If you plant more than a dozen bulbs, a long-handled, step-on bulb planter is a great, inexpensive investment in your time, labor, and body. There are several different types. You step on the flange or foot-bar at the base of the handle, then twist the planter. The planter cuts out a plug of soil. You put the bulb in the hole, then replace the soil plug over the bulb. I'm happy with the simple design where the soil plug pops out of the top when you step on the bar to make the next hole. Prices range from about $14 to $50.
