Dane County Farmer's Market
This is largest producer-only farmer's market in the country. It's filled with the season's best bounty of vegetables, flowers, and specialty products from approximately 300 vendors throughout the year. About 150 vendors attend every Saturday. All of the agriculturally-related items are produced in Wisconsin. The market is held every Saturday of the year, rain or shine on the capitol grounds in Madison, WI. The market also has arts and crafts vendors as well as street musicians all around the capitol square. For more information, check out the website:

Favorite or New Plant

'Siam Queen' Basil
If there truly is a plant for all things, 'Siam Queen' basil comes close. It is an amazingly fragrant and succulent herb for Thai cooking and is a beauty in the flower garden as well. It has purple stems and purple flowers the entire season, with shiny medium green leaves that remain pristine because insects don't like the taste! This plant will thrive in full to partial sun as long as it is watered regularly. It does best in poorer soils which intensify the flavor. At this time of year, drying it in the dehydrator fills the room with delicious scent better than any potpourri. Start some indoors next spring.
