16th Annual Water Conservation/Xeriscape Conference & Expo
This year's theme, "Re: Connect - People, Nature, Environment," offers speakers from diverse national organizations. Keynote presenter will be Patricia Mulroy, General Manager, Las Vegas Valley Water District, Southern Nevada Water Authority. Sponsored by the Xeriscape Council of New Mexico, this event will be held in Albuquerque February 24 and 25, with an expo on February 26 and 27. Two-day conference registration is $200. After February 19, it is $225. The Expo, including exhibits and seminars, is free. Parking is $4. For details and registration, go to

Blanket Flower
Blanket flower (Gaillardia spp.) is a colorful wildflower that is easy to grow from seed and self-sows with abandon. It grows in native soil or improved beds and survives full sun and summer heat with modest amounts of water. Flowers are intense shades of red, yellow, orange and maroon. There are annual and perennial varieties and both have long blooming seasons from March to November. Sow seeds in fall or spring.
