Eat Well Guide
Eat Well Guide lets you search for local, slow food on farms and in markets and restaurants in the U.S. and Canada. You can even search for wholesome, local foods all along a vacation route. The site has a blog about food, water and energy, and many, many resources for local eating, green living and social responsibility.

Gaia's Garden by Toby Hemenway (Chelsea Green Publishing, 2009, $29.95) is a second edition of the bible of permaculture. Hemenway presents a difficult subject in an easy-to-understand manner with humor and integrity. He has added the urban setting to this edition. This book will convince even the hardest to convince that creating a backyard ecosystem that works with instead of against nature can be done -- by anyone. He covers the importance of soil, habitats, water, and how to create an "edible ecoforest."
