Cobra Head Weeder
The cobra head weeder is a simple gardening tool but one I reach for often. It is good for doing some light weeding with precision, but I like to use it to break up the soil when planting an individual transplant. It is made of strong steel and its curved shape make it easy to push down into the soil to break up lower compacted levels. It is also great for making a shallow trench for seeding. This tool is available online and in many local garden centers.

Help for Lonely Fruit Trees
Some types of fruit trees need a second variety nearby for pollination or they won't set fruit. If you have recently lost a tree, leaving another tree without a pollinator, or if you only planted one and realize now that you need two, here's a tip. Take a blooming branch from a neighbor's tree of a different variety and put it in a can of water to hang in your tree. Replace the blooming branch every few days until your tree's blooms are mostly gone. The bees will do the rest!
