Heirloom Vegetables
The Edible Heirloom Garden by Rosalind Creasy (Periplus Editions) is the first in her series about the cooking garden. She is an expert in all things edible in the landscape and started us off years ago by writing about how we can incorporate edible plants into the average landscape. Her photographs are breathtaking, and the best part of the book is the second part which provides historical recipes as well as methods for cooking some of the more unusual heirloom vegetables. For those of us who want to get back to the roots of vegetable gardening, this is a wonderful way to do it.
