University of California IPM Online
More and more of us are interested in using integrated pest management methods to control pests and diseases in the garden. IPM Online, from the University of California, Davis, is great online resource for learning about these methods. You will find descriptive information and photographs to help you recognize the various pest life stages so you don't mistakenly kill beneficial insects.

Favorite or New Plant

Blue Velvet Honeysuckle
When I relocated to the western slope of Colorado, I brought along one of my favorite honeysuckle shrubs, Lonicera korolkowii 'Floribunda', with subtle bluish-green foliage. The Blue Velvet honeysuckle is a Plant Select plant and is the most resistant to aphids compared to the old shrubs found around farmsteads. Once established, this honeysuckle is very drought enduring and blooms in spring with showy pink flowers that hummingbirds visit during their migration to the mountains. The red berries produced in summer are a favorite of songbirds.
