Gardening with Wildlife
Learn how to make your yard wildlife-friendly while keeping out those critters you may not want sitting on your porch, like snakes, javelinas, mice, and rats. Tom Wood, Southeastern Arizona Birding Observatory and Water Conservation Educator, Water Wise/Energy Smart, University of Arizona will present the topic in two venues: U of A South, 1140 N. Colombo, Sierra Vista, AZ, on August 4, 2012, 9 to 10:30 a.m. and at Ecoasis, 54 Brewery Ave., Bisbee, AZ on August 7, 2012, 5:30-7:00 p.m. Free. No registration required, but verify location and times with U of A South, 520-458-8278 x2141.

Clever Gardening Technique

Freezing Blackberries
Spread one layer of berries in a pan or on a cookie sheet so they do not touch. Freeze for 1.5 hours. Remove. Use a food saver vacuum sealer to remove air while sealing berries in plastic bags. This method maintains flavor and keeps berries fresh months longer than freezing without a vacuum sealer.
