Most of the tobacco states are scrambling to use settlement funds to help tobacco farmers find alternative crops such as exotic vegetables, herbs, cut flowers, and ornamental plants. You can help by going out of your way to buy these and other home-grown products. This spring, look for bedding plants grown in tobacco greenhouses and nursery stock from regional growers.
