Perennials for Shady Locations
If you're looking to plant something besides impatiens and hosta in that shady spot, Perennials for Shady Locations from the University of Kentucky will help expand your choices. It features a brief but practical discussion of shade-loving perennials accompanied by a handy chart that let's you review potential plant choices for bloom season, moisture requirements, and shade tolerance. This site also provides an excellent bibliography to help you research further. Although most listed plants are hardy over a broad range of zones, the site is geared to Kentucky growing conditions, so northern gardeners should double-check winter hardiness for specific plants.
