I still remember the warning of "leaves of 3". I grew up in California and am quite familiar with poison oak, but have never seen poison ivy. Confused

I'm not lazy, so I did look this up and it looks like the photos I found online. But would like someone familiar with it to verify.

Is this poison ivy?

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Not poison ivy

Poison Ivy often has 1 or two mitten shaped leaves in that group of 3

Definitely not Toxicodendron (Poison Ivy) and to me it looks like leaves of Passiflora, possibly the native Maypop (Passiflora incarnata)

Thanks everyone!! Thank You!

I've been concerned about it. I saw it VERY early this morning, and kept asking myself "Did I touch it? Did the weed eater touch it (while not cutting). "Did I touch my clothes? Did I step on it or brush it before I realized that it had groups of 3 leaves?' Confused Blinking

I came in and washed my hands and arms with blue Dawn as someone had suggested in another forum awhile back...while mentally kicking myself for not buying the poison ivy/ask treatment stuff that I saw at Bass Pro. D'Oh!

The fact that it may be a passion vine is a great plus. (I think) I need something for my fence area, although I will want to put it on a trellis. If it attracts butterflies, or hummingbirds, then I will be very happy. Hurray! Hurray! Thank you Lin @plantladylin for finding the links for me!

I will only add to this thread the old saw I will preach about till they bury my keyboard..,

Look at the arrangement of the three-leaflet leaves along the stem (thank you, Never_Ending_Quest, for the clear image). These are clearly opposite in arrangement.

Poison Ivy (Toxicodendron radicans) will ALWAYS be alternate in arrangement along the stem.

Thank You! for the additional clairificaton. That is excellent to know. Hurray!

In all the photos that I was able to find, there were too many leaves (plant was too full), to see the stem. Do you know of a website or image to illustrate?

Thank You! Thank you @Hamwild.

Just wish I could see the actual vine stem more clearly. Blinking

Finding a picture of the vine seems harder than finding one of the leaves. Sighing!

This is the best I could do (found this online, not my image):

When I get a moment (poor me, preparing for a long vacation), I will harvest some of the Valley's bounty Poison Ivy-wise - and make an educational elucidation on the various ways that Toxicodendron radicans can present itself in the landscape.

If I do not make good on this threat, er, promise! - someone please remind me. I don't mind doing it, but I can and will forget - especially after being away from digital communications and enjoying food, drink, and travel.

I have this species as new seedlings, running ground vines, woody vines climbing trees with woody branched limbs, and erect woody stems out in meadowy areas. I can get whatever images anyone might need, and I'm not afraid to pontificate upon such.

Till then..look before you touch.

Thank you Georgia@ I tip my hat to you.

The vine in the photo is about the same size as the vine that started this thread. And the stem is visible! Thank You!

So now that "ya'll" have been convinced that my volunteer, wayward vine is not poison ivy, and most probably is some sort of passion vine, my education continues. I'm all ears!

I've never grown a passion vine, so don't know much about them but the links that @plantladylin supplied will give me a good start. I hope it will attract lots of pollinators. First, I need to weed around it since I have neglected that area due to chiggers. Grumbling

@ViburnumValley I'll look forward to your pontification. I'd like to learn more, but hope I never encounter any to need that knowledge. Thumbs up

As long as Poison Ivy lives, and produces fruit, and birds eat the fruit, and birds poop out the seeds far and wide in our gardens - you will have ample reason to increase your knowledge of all its ways.
