Wow, this year sure came fast. Hope you all have an amazing new year, 2020.

Here it is January 3 and I got to work outside in the raised beds all day today. It was 54° out.
It is so interesting to browse through the beds and see which semps show no sign of rain/cold damage. Some are a big surprise, like this LeClair's Hybrid #1. Very velvety in texture, and absolutely no rotten leaves.
Thumb of 2020-01-04/valleylynn/ac862f

A new one for me is 'Fata Morgana', and it is taking all the weather in stride.

I decided to see if Aloe aristata would survive our winter/spring season. So far so good, it has been down to 19° early in December. That is a 'Lynn's Rose Gold' offset growing by it.

Another newer one for me. 'Rhubarb Crumble'.

Can you see your semps this time of year?

Thank you Julia/
It is very wet out, but everything seems to be doing well. There are a few that get winter/spring rot every year, but end up recovering in a month of drier weather.
How was your weather today?

Warm, 60 here today. Didn't get out purging areas inside my house! I got the bug and that doesn't happen often.

I have been doing a lot of indoor purging this last month. But could not pass up working outside today. We are suppose to have rain for at least the next week.

I was just outside looking over my semps and boy do I have a lot of work. Lots of dead leaves to clean up and a couple that I need to dump on the compost heap.

I think I may start to cull the herd a bit.

Connie, I fear going to PO because they are no help in my striving to reduce the size of the herd. After a visit to them, it is always larger. Rolling on the floor laughing

Melissa I know what you mean about trying to reduce the "herd". That is the process I am in right now. While out working in the beds I have started to turn the name tags sideways on the ones that I will now keep. Now to stick to those decisions. Whistling

Lynn, your semps look great!

I found a rootless sorry-looking chick of Gold Nugget yesterday. Wonder what it will be like if I break its dormancy and grow it indoor.

From what I read, a semp needs a winter dormancy of 8 eight weeks. It probably has got it.

I don't have any unheated indoor space. If I don't take it in, I am afraid it will not make it.

Thank you Charlinex.
You can put it in your unheated garage. Set it o some dry soil in a small pot and leave it. If it starts looking to dry you can barely mist it once every few weeks. You just don't want to make it wet.

Thanks, Lynn, for reminding me not to overwater!

I wonder if it will grow normally. I don't have any unheated space. Also I wonder what colors it can produce without the cool temperature. If it becomes rooted, I will bring it outside in March.

There are still a lot chicks outside. This will be an experiment. Sticking tongue out Smiling

I have been thinking about a logical way to reduce my herd and I think I will start by grouping plants together that are similar. Even just doing it by color would be a great help. Then I can start eliminating some of them depending on how they perform. Or even just my whim!

Lynn, what is going to be your situation for your plants when you move? It is sad that you have to give up all those lovely beds.

Lynn that's good news! I tip my hat to you. Melissa I'd been wondering the same thing! Sticking tongue out
Charlinex, it'll be interesting to see how the plant does! Keep us updated please.
If taking it indoors, place on a window that gets the least amount of heat, if you have such a place. Good luck! I tip my hat to you.

Serapis did not make my list last year, but since it's been transplanted in better soil and a larger container it's really done well...
