It is time to start thinking about this coming April's 'Kevin Vaughn Hybridizing Clinic'. This will be the 7th annual clinic. Each year brings something new and interesting.

Phoenix Inn on Commercial Blvd. in Salem
Hotel contract:
This offer closes MARCH 26th, after that date you will be charged $15 more per night.
Use the code "Sempervivum Clinic Group" to get the reduced rate.

Friday, April 26, 9:00am: Brunch Address: 1926 SE Holman Ave, Dallas, OR 12:00pm to approximately 2:00pm, Sale/trading Last year we tried out doing a 'Vendors' day on Friday, the first day of the clinic. I am happy to report that it was a big success. The list of vendors was made up from those participating in the clinic. We are going to do it again in 2019, but will have a larger pool of people coming to buy plants, garden art, etc. We have invitations out to Polk County Master Gardener Ass., Salem Hardy Plant Society and Benton County Master Gardener Ass. to come see, and buy. This is a great opportunity for all you semp lovers attending the upcoming clinic to bring plants, garden art and containers to sell. I do have a couple extra tables if you can't bring one for setting up your items. Brunch will start at 9:00am and run through the morning and afternoon. No one will go hungry.
Dinner @ Mangiare in Independence Oregon 4:45PM

Saturday, April 27, 11:00am: Seedling Judging, and Clinic Address: 4358 River Rd S, Salem, OR Something completely new for the 2019 clinic is a 'Seedling Judging'. Those coming to the clinic can bring their very own seedlings to be judged by the entire group. Plenty of time to get those yearlings and older, potted up and adjusted to their new home in time for the April clinic. "The lecture will be on evaluating seedlings, deciding which plants to use as parents, and selecting those that should be named. Using these criteria, the seedlings will be evaluated by the whole group." Lunch will be served at Kevin's.
Dinner at Roberts Crossing in Salem, OR 4:00pm, .

Sunday, April 28, 10:00am: Perennial Obsessions Nursery
Stroll through the rows of sempervivum and sedum. Choose your favorite plants to purchase.

More information will be added as it becomes available for hotel reservations and Friday nights dinner arrangements, and more.

I have started to stockpile containers, looking forward to spring and the clinic and going to PO.

I really like old roasting pans because they are shallow and have a large surface area for the plants to spread. Also like the bowl shaped planters.

Here is my pile so far, 8 pans ready to go. I also scored 4 more at the thrift store today. Now I just need husband to drainage holes in them for me.

I didn't sell as much as I would have liked; I had inventory of about 45 small/miniature containers planted with semps, but I had a great time!

I had wondered what Bev did with that photo of my box of seed! You see that I do everything in wretched excess.

Am so looking forward to you all coming to my garden this spring. There are ~12 K new seedlings to examine (despite the efforts of the chipmunks!!) that we'll use in the evaluating session. Will also go over why I made certain crosses and how the results either were happy ones or not so much. Then with all that knowledge under your belt, you'll be asked to evaluate seedlings from our attendees.

We had only invited a very small group of Master Gardeners last year. This year we will add the invitations to Marion County Master Gardeners and Salem Hardy Plant Society. Both of these are large groups. Last year was only Polk County Master Gardeners, and they are a very small group. I am also going to be speaking at the 'Insights Into Gardening' next month in Corvallis and will be advertising the sale there also. This is a large event attended by many plant enthusiasts. I am hoping to help sell everything you bring this year. Hurray!

Lynn,

You can add Kevin Diltz to the list. He works at Dancing Oaks and attended last year's class . This year he can go to the banquet.

and yes I do grow/ hybridize a lot of other things. The dwarf and Pacific Coast Native irises should be peaking about that time plus some cyclamen, Pulmonaria, hardy geraniums and dianthus. SUCH FUN!

Done, I added Kevin Diltz. Hurray!
And I almost forgot to add Ruth Jupe to the list. She moved here from California. She is really looking forward to meeting everyone. Not sure if Carlin (Ruth's DH) is coming. I'll find out this weekend.

Does the brunch begin at 9AM or 12PM? Or did I read this wrong?
