In Echeveria the "bumps" is one of the popular types now. I'm betting we'll see more of these modifications in leaf shape in the future. Probably everything you see now in other Crassulaceae you'll see in semps. I have an Aeonium formed one too.

Even the bumps have their own bumps? Whoa!
Great quality pics... now I'm tempted to go out and upgrade my camera. But I think my home treasurer will veto that expenditure.

Tim.

I think the "treasurer" might be more likely to grant your request if given a nice glass of lemoncello first......

This camera back was $1100 but it fit my old macro lens that I so love. It works WAY better with this back. The manual is like War and Peace for length. Fortunately I don't want to do 95% of what it can do. I just want unadulterated photos!

I forgot to say, Kevin, that I LOVE your fuzzy seedling! Lovey dubby
In regards to the bumpy semp, it's not the name that bothers me, it's the bumps on the plant that bothers me. I don't like the bumps on any of the Echeverias either Angry Remember the movie "Superfly" in the late 70's? In it there was a song called "Bumpy's Lament"

Oops and thus edited to correct that song " Bumpy's Lament" is from the movie soundtrack of the film "Shaft". Thanks Dirt!

Bev,

I have some that aversion to "appendages" in bearded irises too. Most often they are messy but recently I have seen some that are pleasing.

Anyway "I wouldn't want a yard full of that" but I think many people will at least want one as a conversation piece. It actually seems to be a good plant otherwise too. Very healthy.

but yes I like the furry one better too. The bumps came out of a cross NOT for bumps but the fuzzy one was JUST what I wanted. Sometimes when our expectations are met, they look better to the hybridizer too.

I really like the very long cilia covering the leaves on the fuzzy one. What is the parentage of that one Kevin?

I think the bumpy things are neat on succulents--especially--but yeah, I wouldn't want a yard full of that either Smiling

Not a fan of the appendages on irises, haven't seen one yet that I find pleasing Hilarious!

Fuzzy--always nodding

one thing I am curious about...

Dirt, love the instrumental music in Shaft and affected by the voice of Curtis Mayfield in Superfly; hard to make the choice Rolling my eyes.

Lynn,

It's 'Baroness' X 'Saint Cloud'. Only 6 seedlings from that cross and all were nice. This one is the most winter-impervious and a really pretty clumper.

There are two others that I'm considering too. One is much lighter but a more expanded but flat rosette that I like a lot too.

Yes I agree, both are quite nice. I like that the bumps are uniformly distributed on all of the leaves not just some here and there, it adds an intentionality to the look, the tips being more of a true purple than a maroon doesn't hurt either. The fuzzier one looks like it got the color of it's mother and the more interesting cilia/webbing pattern of it's father, that said it's color looks deeper and warmer than either parent. Saint Cloud is a really cool Arachnoideum, it almost looks like it belongs in a different grouping of plants because of such a strange fur arrangement, same could be said for this seedling.

I added a few more bits of information and updates to the post I made previously with directions to Lynn's and my places. It might be wise to print this before driving here.

Also, the class will sort of be an extension of the hybridizing chapter in my book so read that chapter before coming so you'll be ready to learn all the secrets.

Hello all, after much consideration I've decided I'm not able to attend this year's clinic I'm sorry, just have extremely low energy and been sick on and off for months now Thumbs down I'll miss ya'll but will see the updates and photos as they happen! Thumbs up
While deciding whether to cancel attending this year, I received a jury summons in the mail, You have to understand, in high school I was really into political science, and would visit the Detroit court once a week...So since turning 18 I've always wanted to be on a jury, AND it never happened until now!!! I'm so happy Hurray! And the date - April 26th (the day I would have been in the car with Julia! and Patty maybe) I took the summons as a sign to stay home this year! Welcome!
Have a wonderful time and update with pics as you are able/wanting Group hug Group hug

I found the post Kevin.

Greg, there is no way to tell you how much you will be missed. Since you are so excited about the jury summons I hope you are chosen for what ever the trial is. You will be fair and thoughtful in your decision making. Group hug
Wishing you an amazing family gathering time. Group hug

Crying sorry you have been sick - what is going around here right now they call the "Ohio crud". And I am pretty sure there is more than one crud going around, because I had 2 of them. Did jury one time - it was actually very interesting. HOWEVER, we had one juror who this must have been a lifetime moment for her - she quite obviously had a full blown raging case of the "flu" flu - you could even tell she had a high fever. Even though we had an alternate, she refused to drop off and stay home sick. Sooo, being closed into in a tiny jury room with her to deliberate, we all caught it. I was sick for a month. The flu went into bronchitis, which went into pneumonia. Soooo, if you have a sick juror, complain to the bailiff and make him send that person home!!! Other than that, have a good time.

Christie that's terrible and thanks for that advice I wouldn't have thought to do that!
Honestly I doubt I will be chosen for anything - I have parts of my hair that are long, I have parts that are shaved, and my politics are pretty left(ist) so within the first few questions that'll be known Whistling Rolling on the floor laughing I tip my hat to you.
