I wish it was 4!!! How about -14!!!
The coldest Detroit has seen since 1899, can you imagine?
The all time low is -21, also from the 1800's.

Goodness! Keep warm, all of you. We are slowly creeping back to more Florida-like temperatures but it's not quite here yet. This afternoon we're looking for a wind shift and warming so hopefully most of the orchids can go outside for tonight - staying in the 50's.

Tomorrow we are soaring back into the low-70's and the nights for the next week will be 60ish, so I'll be able to uncover the hoop house and let all those plants in there have some air and unfiltered light. It's nice and warm in the sun, but nippy otherwise for us wimpy semi-tropical people.

Another peek at my little speckly NOID opening up nicely.

Yes, it seems like west of the Rockies you missed all that cold air entirely! My kids in Salt Lake are saying the same - Cold?? Who's cold?

Love that cute little Den. nobile, Daisy. So pretty.

You move your orchids in and out in this "mild" weather, Elaine? I still haven't brought a single plant inside, unless you count the screened lanai as being "inside". Yep, like the "left coast", we'll get near 80F this coming week, with lows in the mid to upper 60's.

I know, Ken, I know. Patty berates me twice a week for babying my orchids, too. She doesn't even bring her Vandas indoors, ever.

But . . . we work so hard and wait so long for every single bloom I just can't stand the idea of a bloom blasting because I didn't take 2 minutes to bring the plant into the house. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

I did 'exile' most of my Vandas out to the hoop house which usually stays at least 10deg. warmer than the ambient temperature, and is protected from the wind. They're getting a lot more sun during the day than the one huge one that came into the house. They're also getting watered more often, and are out in the nice humid air instead of inside in the dry, heated air of the house. So, I guess that experiment will show which is the best way to go for me this year. I do love a good experiment, and I know you do too.

Its sunny here today!!!! And about 10-15+ degrees warmer!
If we go through February and March without a single night in the 20's, my house will have had its first, historical Zone 10a winter. We have not dropped below 32-33 so far.

Same here I think 38 was the lowest and just for an hour or two. My Kingianum came in because it is full of buds and I did not want to forget about it and miss the flowers. ( Crying I have done that before.)
