Hi. There are so many vendors, besides some using Facebook, now... I considered asking Mr. Ghio by email, but don't want to be a bother .As maybe fans of those can be bought from other California vendors, near the Bay area as I was thinking, Superstitions, but not certain if they sell wholesale, or just get the price list, by paying a couple dollars, unless of course, it is whole sale! Then, I also am interested & want to look for 'Broken Colors' Iris, but not necessarily only those by Kasperek (sp?) Is there a separate vendor that specializes in those? It would take me hours, to look at all these vendors websites! I figure, some of you experts are more familiar with some of the catalogs, & from previous purchases. Thanks. Shawn

There are several vendors that have broken color irises, but the largest collection I can think of is from Blue J iris. They are currently open for 2019 orders. You can specifically click a tab that directs you to all of the broken color irises available in their catalog.

@Dachsylady86 Thanks, I will have a look at Blue J.. It seems a bit early, but figure they are dormant anyway. I appreciate your help, with the 'broken colors', Liz.

@iciris Thank you Barbara. I have the 'Batik' in blue, I just want the original violet, that I thought it was supposed to be.
I had 'Gnus Flash' before, then a replacement, which may have reverted to solid colors (pale) but may have been incorrectly labelled. I will take you up on the offer on that & then you can see if once you see in person if there is any difference, with my 'Batik' to yours. Much appreciated. Shawn

Yes, that is the process. Just send her an email and she will send you a catalog. (As far as I know.)

I've never had a true broken colour. I want one, or 39. The only one I know for certain I purchased as "broken colour" as Batik, bloomed faaar darker purple and as a self and not Batik. Sadly, the iris purchased began blooming (it was from Lowe's) and I have not seen it since. I lost one of the two, and the other, which I hope I found was transplanted two years back. Crossed fingers for this year! If not, I'll move it again to better soil.

Thanks for posing the question, Shawn. I was also wanting to find broken colors.
TB 'Starting Fresh' blooming for me in May of 2022. It bloomed for a week and a half with nine buds.

Shawn, the best place to buy Ghio irises is from Ghio. He has some really super low prices on his older varieties. He also has a neat grab bag kind of thing where you send him an amount of money you can afford, and he sends you a bunch of irises. Worth the try.

@Evelyninthegarden I tried one email, to Joni , but was returned. Is the last part of the email addy abb.nebraska.com ?

@UndyingLight I ordered a collection of four, on sale from Brecks ( with guarantee) which had the violet purple ''Batik', 'Tiger Honey' & had either 'Gnus Flash' or Bewilderbeast', but no pink one, even replacement... But I rbought the last two, from Jung. & had to replace, once again, but no luck. Though , this 'Batik' from HD is blue, with plenty of white (photo in a previous post, in a thread?)

@iciris Barbara & I will exchange 'Batik' to compare (& I likely provide some flower seed or seedlings, too) & get a 'Gnus Flash', too.
@tveguy3 I will email Mr. Ghio about some Iris. I had contacted him, about one of his Dahlia I liked,...& he likely had quite a few other requests for it!Appreciate that info, Tom.
I really do appreciate all of your help & suggestions. Shawn

If you directly send him a check for the catalog with your address (I think $3) he will mail you one when they go out around early March.

@Dachsylady86 I got a reply & when the print catalog is mailed out, I will be receiving one! They have about 6 broken colors & Ghio's too. Will know which cultivars in February, after it gets mailed out. Since I already have seed trays going with mostly perennials & biennials, plus snapdragons, then I can sow my annuals, plus add Oriental poppy roots, ( Jung, Breck's, Lily Pad Bulb Farm, Holland Bulbs) then add Ghio Iris ( mostly tall bearded & broken colors.. Next, will work on Roses (Austin's plus old cv,'s over time...) & cactus / laciniated Dahlias, after Iris, for a mixed border. But, waiting on seeds from Floret, Pinetree, 2BSeeds, plus others I had, seeds of, which are also hardy annuals. Then the warm weather seeds go in.trays, or direct sow Cosmos Cupcakes, Double Click, Cupcakes , Zinnia & Marigolds- Mum's type (The actual Fuji /spider Mums from King's, get ordered early, to flower in fall ) for when most annuals are about done for... Pansies (ruffled) got a late start, as it was hot through October.
I hope I get my color scheme going correctly. I just miss all my Peony varieties. I do not miss, digging in this garden soil. Glare That had taken many years of adding those....So ready for spring weather, but it seems like that now. (Until there is a 'real snowfall !) Shawn

Joni's doesn't seem to have many of the iris named. Is it usual that they are sold by them without a name?

@Lestv I think there is a printed list, you have to request.. Is that what you are asking about? I just couldn't seem to get the email address correct, to request the price list, which ought to include the named cultivars.

Thanks Steve.

Btw - to find the largest selection of broken color iris on the Blue J site you will have to search through the alphabetical lists. The link for broken colored iris has very few, while there are many in the lists.
