I suspect Tom would have been somewhat surprised, if we had actually tried to talk him out of buying more irises? Whistling

The only way one of you guys would try to talk me out of buying an iris would be if it were in short supply and you wanted it for yourself. Hilarious!

Lucy "hit the nail on the head" with her comment.....I'm in the 'moratorium' mode, too...…..little...if any.....ordering, this year, for me *Blush* ! The gardens are a "full time job' from mid-March, until mid November, and every year it's more of a struggle to 'touch all the bases"! Rita isn't able to give all her perennials the care they really need, so I have those to deal with, as well, and with fruit trees, nut trees, veggie gardens, berry patches, iris beds, daylily borders, cider making, and firewood cutting Shrug! !

I hear that Arlyn, as my fruit trees are getting older and dying, I'm not replacing them. Irises are on a "get rid of one before you add one" policy. I sure hope my seedlings all bloom this year so I can dump a bunch of them. I will have a bunch more that will be needing space. I guess my garden is like the government, "On partial shut down". Rolling on the floor laughing Maybe I need to build a wall so I can keep those darn irises from getting into my hands. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I have to admit, even in my youth I'm having a bit of trouble adapting to the new garden size. I'm more sore and the days of work are longer. It's even more difficult with the farm and new business. I think at some point you have to just stop the increasing to be able to fully enjoy what you have. I'm more excited for seedlings this year than any other year!

Even though I am only in my second year of iris growing, I have come to that conclusion. Yes, there are still irises that I want, but there is no more room for them at the moment. I want to save the very favorite and best growing for crossing, and that in itself will require more room. Of course, the elimination will take time, but must be done in the next 2-3 years, as they grow and bloom. (And, hopefully multiply!)

I think that I have enough varieties needed for crossing, if they grow well and prove to be worthy candidates. Some, of course, will be kept in the perennial gardens just because I like them so much. Time will tell about them all growing well, especially in our irregular weather patterns. ("Survival of the fittest!")
