Next up was a Plicata Cross I did at Dad's have been hoping to work more Plicata's the past few years but not a lot of bloom to play with. One of my Favorite's of the recent Schreiner intro's is Petticoat Shuffle it is a neat pattern hoping I can put some ruffles on it Smiling Here is some of the things that bloomed in the cross as you can see it is a dominant pattern only kept a couple of them to work with but they were pretty especially so early in the season.

Which two did you choose to keep? I notice that quite a few different forms popped up in the seedlings.

M.Thumb of 2019-01-15/ARUBA1334/a6ce11 Agree with your daughter. Beautiful red.

N.Thumb of 2019-01-16/ARUBA1334/399034 This one looks like a child of Burseen's Oso Good (with better form)

16-103(Judy's Smile X Iconic)..Iconic is proving to be a wonderful parent both of these 2 early bloomers stood out in the seedling patch especially liked the Variegata.
Love these two. A is so rich and velvety looking.

One of the earliest to flower here of Joe's plants is (Oil Painting) it has Kick started the season off here since Intro'd and is Stunning especially in a clump. It grows really well for Dad and I and have used it a bunch over the years so excited to see it's kids Smiling

(16-8) Good Morning Sunshine x Oil Painting.. I found out Good Morning Sunshine is a very dominant pattern almost all of the seedlings that bloomed probably 25 or so resembled it and none of these were as good as the parents but I did save these because they can change the 2nd year or when established and I like the bloodlines maybe something fun the next generation ?Will see what they look like in the spring.

Sherry..I tried to work with a lot of them this year but it was just too hot and couldn't get pollen to take at all and ended up with less then 40 pods this year and probably made 300 crosses had a couple days there where it cooled into the 80's and looked like pods were forming and wouldn't you know good old midwest weather we had 70mph winds and pea sized hail and that was that. I need to bring my tweezers with me to Santa Cruz in the spring nodding and play catch up !

Tom.. It was my favorite too had a lot going for it really stood out amongst the others had a glow about it especially in full sun really it was a good cross had a lot of good reds' bloom in the bunch and hard to choose especially this year in the heat. I tossed way more than normal some crosses were terrible and I didn't think any of them were worth saving but was thankful lot's of them bloomed so I could make space for the new ones coming behind it Smiling was very limited on what I had to work with in 2016 very few of my own bloomed at home that I had plans for and didn't want to completely pillage my Dad's garden was happy he let me hang tags all over his flowers Big Grin

Bonnie.. I think K is going to be a good one unfortunately I only got to see that one flower the wind snapped the stalk in the storm and I picked it up and put it in a vase in the garage hoping to see more but it never did bloom again very good color and form hopefully a good stem with buds to go with it in May. 16-24 A is a neat color very happy to get that color and pattern I need to mix more of Joe's reds and Kieth's Plicata's Smiling

Monty.. Glad I could help it is very addictive Smiling if you have the space would encourage you to try it this year lot's of fun to see seedlings bloom for the 1st time good or bad they will surprise you Smiling

Poly.. Im glad a couple of them caught your eye Smiling

Jan.. Thank You lots more to come from that cross hopefully something unique Crossing Fingers!

Les.. I choose B and F because I liked the form on them hoping to add some ruffles to the Petticoat pattern and tighten up the standards it is an excellent plant and grows well here the only downside is the standards open on it quickly and it falls apart in our wind driven rains. I also like A but it had one little puny increase so 50/50 if it is there in the spring.

I agree on 16-18 quite a few of them were interesting and I won't know what Ive got until next year they were all hit with a late frost and when you go from 20's in April to 95 in May they act weird especially new seedlings should know what Ive got the 2nd year Crossing Fingers!

16-112 I .. The color in the falls is what made it stand out to me but don't remember how it looked in full sun the season went fast in the heat especially these newer ones some of them bloomed way down in the foliage others got hit in the wind/hail storm only the strong survive here Smiling
16-103.. I liked both of them and have plans for them in the spring nodding

Daphne.. It's always good when I can get the kids involved especially when its time to pull weeds Smiling

Andrea.. Thank You !

Barbara.. We had good bloom this year Smiling

Debra.. You have a good eye Smiling those are the 2 I kept of the bunch.
