For anyone visiting Salem next month Schreiner's is a must stop there display gardens are always incredible and we always enjoy walking the gardens and looking at some of the older favorites and the beautiful mix of shrubs and perennials mixed in with the iris.

They are a huge part of the history of our favorite flower and I always enjoy walking through there fields as there is nothing else like seeing acres of Iris at peak bloom it is one thing to enjoy a favorite flower in a clump it is another to see 1000's of stalks blooming all at once Smiling only at Schreiner's.

There inside display is really neat as well they have the majority of what's grown tagged and displayed as well as buckets of stalks that can be bought for the locals I always enjoy reading the literature on the wall about there history and looking at pictures of the commercial operation. I'm not sure how many acres are planted out every year as they have now branched out into Daylilies but at there peak it was close to 200 that was dug and divided each year.

I found a neat write up on (Stepping Out) that I wanted to share it was my very 1st Iris that Dad gave me years ago and is responsible for my Iris addiction Smiling I wasn't able to get a lot of pictures this year of the displays or fields as we had full sun when I visited and most that I took were washed out but wanted to share some of my favorites from there over the past couple years.

Thanks for all the beauty Brad, and the enabling! Not sure how to squeeze Schreiners in. Maybe in the morning before we meet Tom at MidAmerica...... hmmm. Wish I could hit Aitken's on the WA side too after Mt. Pleasant. Might just need to come back again to hit them all.

And it goes without saying but your photos are outstanding. Do you use a tripod for the large view shots?

Sergio.. Those are seedling rows at Mid America and I'm guessing there flagged to keep and look at another year.

Andrea.. Thanks You Smiling It really is an amazing place to visit looking forward to seeing them in May.

Diana.. Salem never disappoints always plenty to see at all the gardens around town and it seems to get better every year so maybe in the future you can visit them.

Les.. nodding I know a lot to squeeze in one trip and I always wish I had more time to see it all something gets missed every year but if your timing is right it will be Iris overload Rolling on the floor laughing I don't use a tripod just happened to get the right lighting a couple days there which makes the colors pop.

Brad entrusted some of his seedlings to me, and this one is blooming in a week of heavy rain!
I took this picture just now under an umbrella! It has good branching too.

Jan ~ An umbrella is a good idea.

Umbrellas for the iris rows? Thinking Whistling

Jan ~ Yes, too much rain this late in spring. Rain is predicted off and on until the end of the month. I hope the irises survive. Well, it will be..."survival of the fittest"! (An automatic cull...I hope not!) Blinking
