Interesting about English Charm. I've heard that different soils can have an effect on colors, do you think it works the same for scents?

To be honest, I have not yet grown this iris. Nevertheless, I have read about it, and even in the database the flower is described as being malodorus.

Leslie also hasn't grown Rio Vista.
I had a garden at work and grew a lot of irises. I cut a bouquet of irises for my friend's wife. For two days she was looking for where the cat peed. He remembered what I had mentioned about Rio Vista and took it out of the bouquet and took it outside. Cat pee problem solved.
Some irises are only garden irises.

I have a large patch of English Charm. It blooms well yearly and I have never noticed it to have an offensive smell. I do have others in the garden that tend to stink a bit though! Smiling

Carl ~ I wonder what would happen if you crossed English Charm with Rio Vista? Hilarious! (I didn't notice a scent description on Rio Vista.)
Rio Vista has an Honorable Mention. English Charm is very pretty too, I guess just don't put them in a bouquet.

Welcome! to the Iris Forum!! Hurray!

Good luck with your grab bag! Crossing Fingers!

(Just in case you don't know this already; roses and irises grow well in the same beds, as long as the roses do not shade out the irises and you make sure to keep the rose fertilizer away from the iris rhizomes.)
Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice!

Welcome Anne,
If you dare, check out Superstition Iris, Iris Sisters, and Mid America Iris. I don't think they have grab bags, but you can't beat these vendors. At Iris Sisters, she gives you about one bonus Iris for everything you order. So if you order 5 she'll probably give you 4 bonus irises. Hurray!

Welcome, Anne.
My wife was crazy for roses. But we were running out of space. A friend at work mentioned Maryott's Iris garden near me (this was years and years ago). I thought "Great, we can plant them around the roses."
Within four years they had taken over the garden.
So beware the iris virus. You have been warned!
(But it's not the worst obsession to have.)

Thank you for all your encouragement. My mothers favorite flower was the iris. I guess it is also a kind of honoring my mom. My grandmother grew tons of them. I guess its my turn. Smiling Also, I grow an organic garden so none of that horrible chemical rose fertilizer here. I am sure the irises will love some nice compost. My husband thinks I am nuts for buying more plants. Maybe but can we ever truly have enough?
