When I started on NGA in 2016 I had several named and unnamed daylilies, maybe under 50 at the time. *Blush* Then a couple years ago (not sure exactly when that was) one of the daylily threads asked how many daylilies you have and I was still under 200. nodding After yesterday's order from Karol Emmerich I have about 525 named daylilies (either in the ground or coming in spring), and several that are either unregistered or I don't know the name. HOW ON EARTH DID THIS HAPPEN!!!! D'Oh! D'Oh! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I'd love to know how NGA has changed, enhanced, etc. your daylily addiction and if there is a cure I'm all ears! I'm all ears! Please share!

Ha Ha Hilarious! You must still have ground around you to plant more. I ran out of appropriate space in my yard & that shut things down. I do admit I have a few that I'd dig & give away or sell to replace for others I consider more desirable. I have met my limit & there's nothing I can do to change that. I do admit saving about 50 pictures & names I'd really like to have on Pinterest in case I do clear out some so I already know what I'd replace them with. Smiling Thumbs up Trudy

If I have this daylily, Confessions of a Hemaholic, I will send it to you, Ginny! Sounds like you are in really really deep! Not sure what can humanely be done to alleviate this addiction. Good luck! The only way for me to deal with this addiction is to just stop counting what I have anymore. Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin I don't think that is the right way to go about it though. Hilarious! Gin, that's a lot of labels.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

I'm with tabbycat. No more space means no more new daylilies. Especially now that I hybridize. Now when I lose one I just plop a seedling in its place. Soon I'll be needing to cull seedlings but somehow that is easier since most so far really don't impress me.

My absolute limit is 200, I will go no more!! What's that chiming... more at the door?
Currently holding firm at 220, I have found that hybridizing has really cut back my urge to buy new Named Varieties...the ones I want are way too expensive for me to buy.

Ginny, we are all in the same boat it is sink or swim! Hurray! Whistling Hurray! I will not put the number I have on this or any site. D'Oh! *Blush* Whistling Oh the fun I have had getting there until I finally am at when one come in at least one goes bye bye. There is no cure in sight, for the upcoming season I have only ordered from one hybridizer who happens to be my favorite. This will make for easy planting. Thumbs up

We all know you have lots and lots of room to plant thousands of daylilies. Angel Maybe you are getting ready to have a second career with daylilies when you retire.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!

I told our receptionist today that I'm buying the parent plants so I'll have them ready when I decide if I want to hybridize nodding nodding If I go until I run out of room I'm really up a creek Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I still have several untouched acres left Hilarious! Hilarious! D'Oh! I keep expanding the gardens to add another row *Blush*

Hi Ginny,
I don't think my list of named cultivars has expanded nearly as quickly as yours Hilarious! , however, I am now up to 291 named cultivars. That does not include seedlings or unregistered daylilies.

I also now have five seedling beds containing a total of about 425 seedlings, with several hundred recently germinated seedlings under lights this winter!

So, if you find a cure, let me know Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Ahh...I think you have struck on the solution. Grow enough seedlings to fill all those empty acres, then you won't have room for any more Named Varieties.

I am afraid to tell you that growing seedlings is as addictive as buying cultivars! I do my own hybridizing and am a total addict Sighing!

That's hysterical, Ginny. So, by 2025 you'll have how many? You went from 200 to 525 in 2 years. So that's a little better than 250% increase over those two years. 6 years until 2025... That's a little over 8,000 daylilies by 2025 at that rate.

You can do it! Thumbs up
