I received my Floyd Cove catalog yesterday, and it is really a beauty! I noted that TONY THE TIGER and ABSOLUTELY STELLAR are already sold out for the year, and I'm so glad that I ordered both of them early - YEA!

But I was distressed to read in their greeting notes that they are planning to sell their entire program: "Not now or next month, but in the future when we hopefully can find the right person to take on what we have created. Ultimately, we have plans to travel..." I totally understand, but I'm dismayed at the same time. They have the most gorgeous plants, and their new intros are always such wowsers! Sad Sighing!

Betty I agree. That would take a very dedicated person/team to operate. I wonder why The Pierce's don't sell their excess seeds on the LA. I am sure they would make a killing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I think it would be fantastic if they sold seeds on the Lily Auction, and who knows -- perhaps they will at some point. In his greeting notes, Guy Pierce mentioned that in 2018 they planted-out about 70,000 seedlings and he blew out his back in the process, which I understand required surgery, and he's still recovering. Ouch!!! Then he said, and I quote:

OK back to the bragging: Sonja dug-out about... 1,600 blue flagged A+, OMG selected futures. FYI, these "Cutting Edge" breakthroughs come from simply hard work AND using good stock. I want people to know that ANYONE can bloom winners. I say this as the absolute truth so go out there and have some fun. But your crosses must be SMART. Not, "Well let's just see what might happen."

And then he went on to give excellent advice and finished with: "Of the several hundred or so winners to be evaluated for introduction each year, it's not picking out the prettiest, but eliminating 'The Pretties' with flaws; like only 3 or 4-way branching, or ruffles that hang up, poor colors, insect magnets, water spotting. They must be unique, and thank God these are often in excess here and not in short supply."

Very interesting notes, to say the least -- and good guidance for someone stumbling along like me... Hilarious!

Lot of cutting edge coming down the pike. Looking forward to that. So sorry to hear about his back injury. We definitely need that in the garden.

Received my catalog yesterday. I can see why Tony the Tiger was sold out. It and a couple others really caught my eye!
Mike, I'm sure you would donate some funds to the cause, if they sold seeds. Rolling on the floor laughing

Shhh... don't tell Ginny! Whistling Hilarious!

Betty, what a wonderful dilemma the Pierce' must have, having to cull all those that many including me, as Drooling worthy.

And me too!!! Thumbs up

Did I mention that I really love their daylilies? Hilarious! Guy Pierce has gone soooo far with future generations from TET ROSE F KENNEDY, TET TIME STOPPER, and I believe TET EMERALD STARBURST also. And he is crossing his seedlings with many other daylilies to widen the gene pool -- excellent! I just wish I was richer... Sighing!

I got mine a couple of days ago. I've hidden it from myself... (right after I looked and determined it had to stay hidden or I am going to stay broke!)
