Dirt--thank for letting me know how Reddy Set behaved. 'one never knows how the kids do once they leave home' & of course that is the most important think of all. Whether a gardener likes it or not, performance is key.

So many pretty irises! You have me looking at the catalogs now.
The little ones are my favorite. I've bought a few over the years never to be seen bloom such as Bluebeard's Ghost, but these two come back every year so far.

thank you for posting your lovely littles. haven't seen you on this forum before? Welcome! hope you have more pictures to share? could it be that 'blue beard' is crowded, or doesn't have enough sunshine? only a few reasons why it could be sulking and not blooming.

Welcome! LorettaNJ. My Bluebeards Ghost has never done much for me either. It struggles to live. Maybe someday I will see it.

All: About vendors pictures. Unlike some plant vendors, I think Iris vendors are pretty close in their representations of the flowers. But I do think many out here on this chat who post pictures actually have more enticing pictures than the vendors....Dang Enablers!!! Rolling on the floor laughing
I think the people who grow Irises are about as special as the flower itself!

Elsa, while Schreiners sends lovely iris they also have many misleading photos. More than any vendor, they are the reason I check the database and AIS wiki before ordering.

Monty - Ninja Turtles is a favorite of mine. Few vendors still carry it now which is too bad.

I've got a "few" SDB's...
One that I like quite a bit is 'Nosferatu'.

I really liked this one, but I think it's lost.. 'Private First Class'
Thumb of 2019-02-13/Henhouse/26895a

I've got buds on 'Flower Shower' just in time for a downpour we're supposed to get tonight... This one has been reliable, and so far, bomb proof.
Thumb of 2019-02-13/Henhouse/52f306

I've had 'Sarah Taylor' for probably 25 or so years.. I moved it with me from my last house, where it was a reliable bloomer. It only blooms every 4 or 5 years here.. I should tear it out, but it really is pretty.

Leslie: Yes I see your point. And when I talk about the photos on this site, I trust the picture content completely but we have some very good photographers and just by sheer talent they make those Irises quite enticing!!!!

Sheri: Private 1st class is So so cool. I hope you still have it by chance or at least can replace it!!!

Great blooms, and welcome, Loretta! Welcome!

An iris that blooms every 4-5 years probably even still is welcome in my yard. Rolling my eyes.

Welcome! Loretta! Hurray!

One of my most vigorous little ones is good old SDB Hocus Pocus [Ben Hager 1976]:

Another classic, which is also a good grower and bloomer, is Lilli-White [Walter Welch 1958]:

It is somewhat taller than the modern SDBs, but quite elegant and I happen to like the name too! Big Grin

Lilli ~ Those two irises are really cute and good looking. Also, I like the pictures that you added to the database.

Lilli White, hahaha! Hilarious! Whistling
