i have 13 soon to be 12?

**cardinal rule
love the richness of the color, but this has not bloomed since it was planted (2017) directly into the ground. have since removed it to a pot, where it will remain this season til i replant it this fall.

**connection planted dirctly into ground (2017) did not bloom. been moved to pot, will remain until fall, will replant in ground.

**day on the bay rec'd as gift from friend who lives in santa cruz. planted directly into ground (2016) has not bloomed, but am watering and fertilizing more. seems to be picking up.

dazzle bloomed first year planted in ground ( front garden) did not bloom last year. but flower is beautiful. will keep as long as i cannot find a more reliable bloomer. but it is a dazzler!

double platinum on my second rhiz. first one shrivled and died. second in pot, will keep in pot til fall. really wanted a pink rebloomer.

exposè really love this white with lines and speckles. has bloomed its heart out without fail even sometimes deep in foliage.

lattè maybe a bloomout. it has leaves, but is slowly shriveling. has similar coloring to ocelot which i like better so Shrug!

magical got this last year, i'm really looking forward to this one.

**ocelot no bloom since planted directly in-ground. have left some in but have potted some and moved some to a different spot in back garden. different spot seems to be more helpful.

**rite of passage shared most of this iris away. has not bloomed since planted in 2016 in ground, back garden.

splurge no bloom planted directly in ground in back garden, have since replanted in front Crossing Fingers! hoping for better results. if this one dies , must reorder again. i really, really like this one.

hope you all aren't completely bored and are off to😴😴😴 land. i'm almost done Hilarious!

loved this next one since forever, and it took 2 years (purchased and planted 2016) originally in back garden where it sulked for 2 seasons. moved it to the front garden where its cooler and more shady and Hurray! Hurray! it bloomed in 2018.
**starring

treasured planted directly into front garden ground.( 2016). has bloomed every year, it's quite tall, stately, and in our bright cloudless skies, almost looks white to passersby. they dont' appreciate the subleties, i guess. Shrug!

[used to have 'comfort' and 'going big time'. gave them both away]

All done.

guess you weren't expecting a dissertation Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

takeaway for this excercise for me has been:

**back garden** too hot to plant rhizomes directly without potting 1st.
- needs more shallow watering and more nutrients such as compost, & fertilizers soil too sandy
- need to repot ( pots) more often, perhaps every year, instead of every other year (pain). may have to cull more☹️
- want more and different, have to cull more to get more diversity ☹️
- alternative, choose a few and just grow those in larger clumps
- temps, soil composition, water, and location really make the HUGE contributing factor to the success ( just the small comparison to the front and back gardens alone in my case).

Daphne, very nice post, I like your comments about the irises performance. Thumbs up

Some fabulous irises as well, to many to list all favorites, but I particularly like 'Splurge'.
It has such a unique and gorgeous look.

Hopefully you will be able to get both better bloom and growth with the steps you are taking. Crossing Fingers!

I had mentioned several weeks ago that I could not find Spectacle. Then I was walking through the garden and I saw this big sword like fan a foot above the rest. I went to look it up in the maps to identify it and sure enough, it was Spectacle. I couldn't find it before because I forgot I planted any newer Irises there.

I think the people who grow Irises are about as special as the flower itself!
