I know that some of you have some beautiful, well grown houseplants (Gene? WillC? Plantladylin? Others?)
Why don;t you showcase them here?
This forum does serve as an SOS Helpline to all the folks that are having problems with their houseplants and need help, but, how about some POSITIVE take of the subject of houseplants? She what you have achieved! What you've worked hard for! As someone who does;t have houseplants (other than a small terrarium set up) I would like to see them! I am sure others would too!

Good idea, as this forum is often dominated by pathetic looking failures heading for the trash. Plants are bought in pretty perfect condition and people need to research the plants needs before rushing to repot them and put them in unsatisfactory conditions.

Sometimes that is how people learn, screwing up before you get it right. Even with the best research, not everything succeeds.

Yes but there is the Ask A Question forum, which is populated by threads exactly like all the threads on the Houseplants forum. Ask a Question would be for help, Houseplants should be a showcase, maybe?

There already is a thread.

Isn't Gina the one who said she has no house plants?

Most folks reach out for assistance only after their plants start to struggle. Some folks wait until their plant is more dead than alive while others panic at the sight of a single yellow leaf. Yesterday, I had a request to assist in selecting new plants for that person's new home, but that kind of foresight is rare - unfortunately.

There are tons of beautiful plant photos online. I'm not quite sure what posting more photos here would accomplish other than to illustrate a point being made about their care.

@Gasrocks Gene, I posted my photos here because the thread you linked to is from almost two years ago and many people may not still be watching that thread.

All absolutely gorgeous Lin! I think posting photos of healthy beautifully grown plants like these can only spark interest in new hobbyists when they see what other people are up to and accomplishing.
The Orchids forum has a great set up (as does the Bromeliads forum) where they have a monthly thread for people devoted to that thread to show their new plants, plants in bloom, etc. I think its encouraging to see what other people are growing and having success with.
This is one of my houseplants....I only have four right now, but this one I am managing to bloom. Its a small bromeliad (less than 6" long) in an aquarium mounted on a piece of driftwood. It is a cloud forest species, so it would die in the Florida summer heat in my greenhouse (I killed one in there years ago, they don't come available very often, so I got a new one several months ago and am growing it as a houseplant under carefully controlled conditions.)

It is one of four plants I currently have that I am treating as houseplants, @gasrocks. I plan to acquire more houseplants, however, just not the more 'conventional' ones. This is called Racinaea crispa

Gina, we could do the same in the Houseplants Forum, have a monthly thread showing our indoor plants! Why not change the name of this thread to something like "Our Houseplants, March 2019"

Threegardeners/Lee Anne is listed as the moderator for the Houseplants forum but I'm not sure if she's around the site anymore ... I haven't seen her post in a long time.

@plantladylin, thanks!
This is another one of my four (and counting) houseplants. Marcgravia sp. 'Suriname'. This is a shingle plant, currently it is in a 2" container, the leaves are between 1-2 inches. New growths really bronzy and cool. As it gets larger I want it to shingle on some natural wood.

I think that's a great idea! Maybe another mod can make the change for us if there is no Threegardeners available

Do you see something at the very bottom of your post that says Suggest a Change? Select that and you should be able to change the thread title. If you don't have the ability to do it, I'll be happy to.

Marcgravias are pretty obscure. Mainly they are grown as vivarium and terrarium plants by folks who keep animals like poison dart frogs and other amphibians. I think that M. umbellata is probably the best known Marcgravia. They are rainforest plants that shingle over rocks, dead wood, up trees....like many of the Monstera, there are several cool species that have never made it to any sort of mass market for sale.
