Hi Evelyn, nice to meet you! Thanks for the thumbs up and the welcome. I live north of Sac up by Redding. Little town called Cottonwood. I'm crazy about these luminata iris, any info on which do best and if any to avoid? I had Spirit World but it didn't make it through my huge debacle of 2019 when I killed half my irises by spraying for fungus when they had brought up bloom stalks. The blooms all turned white then the rhizomes rotted. Ugh. I'm still babying some rescues so I'm not sure how many I lost. Also lost a dozen roses. Expensive lesson.

Just an update from NoCal. We have 107 yesterday and Elizabethan Age has managed to open every bloom the first year after planting. We've had 100 degrees us, seems like for weeks and this iris has really performed. I think it's blossoms are a little smaller and maybe a little faded looking but it's definitely a real trouper!

Wow! you still have blooms on this iris! Smiling In hundred degree heat and only a year old. This iris is much tougher than I am! Hilarious! I wonder if it will settle down to a more typical bloom time in a year or two?

Okay, so fires burning in almost every direction, so one might call our thread, California Nightmares! Well, after a night worrying about the wind changing and blowing the Zogg fire straight towards us (didn't happen), I found this little guy opening it's blooms for 2020. Doe Z Doe. Kind of a favorite of mine.

The Zogg Fire is over 15,000 acres now and it just started yesterday afternoon.
I'm not sure if there is much left that hasn't burned.

Is anyone dangerously close to any of the fires right now?

@iciris ~ Are you getting smoke?

@Calif_Sue how are you doing? Do you have to evacuate?

@janwax how are you doing? Smoky?

No where near any evacuation zones.
We are probably 30 min drive from where embers from the new Napa Valley fire dropped onto homes in the outer eastern neighborhoods of Santa Rosa, that dropped large ash here in Sebastopol, worse than 3 years ago. Winds have died down and so far it's about 20 degrees cooler than predicted so it's improved the fight.

I hosed down about 1/2 my garden so far, it is pretty bad looking.

Thank you, Robin.

It's been very smokey here since the middle of August. The last two days have been clear because of the very high winds. Gretchen is closer to the fires than I am. I'm about 25 to 30 miles to Igo. Igo is the location of the Zogg Fire.

My husbands truck looked like the picture Suzanne posted.

I'm debating posting an article that was in the Paradise newspaper. Paradise is where the Camp Fire was in November 2018, that destroyed about 20,000 homes and killed about 90 people. It's about a cattle rancher that lost so very much. It's a tear-jerker.
