I'm wondering if anyone here within reasonable traveling distance would be interested in going to the New York Botanical Garden sometime in late May or early June -- whenever "rose season" gets started there. I was thinking maybe the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, but perhaps that's too popular for stay-at-home events. However, I think a Sunday would probably be the best day of the week for most people. Anyone interested? Thoughts?

Chris, I would love to go. Do you think they could move it to California? No, seriously, I would love to go if I was in the area. Your insights into the garden/plants would be invaluable. I hope folks take you up on your generous offer and report back and show pictures!

I'm not a big rose person but I am a member of the NYBG. As much as I love the place I fear you will be disappointed in their rose garden. They do not spray & only have varieties that don't need it. Some of the roses are nice but they also have a fair number of Drift roses. I'm guessing you guys wouldn't be impressed.

Please do visit the NYBG because they have loads of other wonderful plants. The newly planted lilacs near the rose garden smell heavenly! And the azalea garden in the Spring is beautiful!

I would suggest the Brooklyn Botanical Garden instead. I found their rose garden to be much nicer! It is also a wonderful botanic garden that I think everyone should visit!

Plus, there are plans afoot to build tall towers nearby that will block the sun in parts of the garden. I'd suggest visiting there while everything is still living! Crying

I've never been to the NYBG before, I hope to go one day to see all the exotic plants!

Right now they have a beautiful holiday train display indoors going on with plant materials used for the decorations.

I'm a member but I've never been to the train show. It's usually a madhouse with tons of kids and huge crowds. They do have adult evenings so I really should go since everyone says it's amazing.

Well, the trip never materialized, but here's something for anyone nearby and interested in 2020 -- come down to the Rudolf van der Goot Rose Garden for Rose Day, held on the second Saturday of June every year. It's a big fun day, the roses look beautiful, there's live music and food and vendors, and you get to meet me and see where I work.

The garden's description on the page needs to be updated -- one of my tasks for Winter. I've already updated the rose list, but my edits are currently being reviewed by my boss before a final copy is re-uploaded. What's there now and the "preferred rose list" are horribly out of date. But in the meantime, I did enter everything I found after a few days of careful inventory of the garden -- I was out there with a pad and pencil, noting everything I found in each bed and planting area within the entire 1-acre garden -- on HelpMeFind. There may be a few newer roses which didn't yet get signs and which I thus missed, but everything you see on the list is in the garden. See the park's garden listing below.

I'll post about this again in Spring on a new thread.

Chris, that is a monumental feat! Thank you for doing that. On my way to HMF to see the results. Thank you so much again.
