I was toying with the idea of going to the Spring sale on Friday. My daughter as a 75 gallon breeder (extra wide) aquarium she has donated for my paludarium effort and I want to pick up it and use that as an excuse to go to the sale LOL. Award winning beaded art at ceinwin.deviantart.com! |

I'd love to go one day, but would have to make a weekend of it, can't do that this weekend, got Sunday and Friday plans. If you go take some snap shots of what they have for sale, I'd like to try the fall sale if I can. |

I would love to go but am dealing with spinal stenosis in my neck and a ride that long will not be good. But I haven't completely ruled it out, I see the neurosurgeon later this morning......... Sherri, I have gone before and it is amazing. They bring out flat beds of NOID offsets and sell them for next to nothing. Then there are the many greenhouses chock full of plants and the prices are very good. Just one of many greenhouses ![]() This one was probably 36" in diameter - WOW ![]() Another tremendous plant - about 2' across and check that price. ![]() $2 for this one in a 5" pot ![]() Minds are like parachutes; they work better when they are open. |

Its a trip. We went to the fall sale last time when we were in Sarasota visiting my daughter but only got in on the last day when a lot of the really good stuff was gone. I hate to go with my family. It was of course blazing hot still and really humid and they didn't want to spend the time to really let me look around for the time I wanted to spend. They always make me feel very pressured to 'hurry up'. I had not been to the sale for several years before we went last time. At that time, (I guess it was probably about 2009-10) there was a guy sitting in one of the back greenhouses with a huge specimen plant of Epidendrum radicans x the Green Fly Orchid, cutting off and selling stems for $1 each. They had a ton of anthuriums and philodendrons and stuff that they never put on their website now. They had hoyas, dischidias. And of course bromeliads everywhere. Rare stag horns, and some beautiful orchids that were not too expensive (last sale all they orchids were IMO WAYYYYY overpriced) I had bought from them previous to that through the mail and also they used to have a booth at the Fairchild Ramble a couple of the years we went. This time I am going ALONE. My main reason for going to Sarasota this weekend is the plant sale, but I am also meeting my daughter, and moving some of her extra stuff back home at the same time. She is graduating from Ringling School of Art + Design there the first week of May so we have to get her out of her apartment by April 30 and into the new place she is sharing with her GF. So she may come to the sale with me, we aren't sure. My plan is to leave here Friday at about 6am and get to Sarasota about 9-ish. Her apt is on the say to Tropiflora so I'll stop there and we can load up the stuff she needs me to bring here, one of which is the 75 gallon aquarium that is going to become my new Paludarium. Then I can go to the sale and come back home. Its a lot of driving but I want to be back in time for wine and cheese poolside with my hubby. Besides I cannot drive at night so unless I spend the night I have to come back same day. I'm glad she is not leaving Sarasota right away as it gives me an excuse to go down there and plant shop later on LOL Award winning beaded art at ceinwin.deviantart.com! |

![]() I don't drive much anymore but I think if I ever walked into one of their greenhouses I'd think I'd died and gone to Bromeliad heaven! ![]() ~ I'm an old gal who still loves playing in the dirt! ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! |

Going early on Friday is the trick. That is what we did in the spring of '17. I imagine things get picked over as the weekend progresses. We visited friends along the way and stayed over in Mt. Dora so the morning trip on Friday wasn't bad. Minds are like parachutes; they work better when they are open. |

I have not had the pleasure attending one of these Tropiflora Sales, but understand they are great. I may have to call in to work on Friday. I will have to tell them I have "Bromalitis". |

Yes, the symptoms can be dibilitating but it respond well to a few hours of Tropiflora therapy. Minds are like parachutes; they work better when they are open. |

The sight of all the Broms my Bromalitis will be cured. I will also need my head clear to balance Bromeliads up there. The USF Spring sale is getting close also. |

I went, I conquered LOL. My take" Aechmea 'Red Candles' Aechmea 'Pink Panties' (Steve Grant) Aechmea chanting 'Black' (not special I know but I used to have it and it died when I was out of pocket with my greenhouse....got a huge offset for $8) Quesneliana marmorata( ditto above, but $10) The candles and panther I just love to pieces. They had another Aechmea called Pinot Noir which I wanted but it was $55 so I passed. The Red Candles was $30, when I was there in the Fall, it was $55. SO I got a break. And it has a pup!! Photos tomorrow. I had the worst luck today with traffic. I got down there in 2:45. I got home in 5 hours. I 75 was a nightmare on th return trip. 4 wrecks, endless construction slowdowns. It was miserable. I should have been home by 430, I was home at 6pm Award winning beaded art at ceinwin.deviantart.com! |

Oh you mean the 'panther'? Yes it should have been 'Panties'. This is my favorite thing I got. Aechmea 'Pink Panties'. Its a Steve Grant hybrid, a variegated form of Aechmea blanchetiana 'Red Raspberry'. I was immediately warn to it and knew I had to get it, Award winning beaded art at ceinwin.deviantart.com! |
