Well, some new plants will often grow blooms on some short scapes. It is not a good sign. But, it does not mean all the scapes will be that short. Hopefully not!

I was really excited to see it. If it is doing that good now, only after a year of being planted, I am sure the next few years it is really gonna show off.

I returned home to find another bloom today, and counted all of all my 2017 seedlings that will bloom soon, so far 8 of them have scapes

Very nice bloom even if it is a shorty. First blooms sometimes
have a hard time getting there, especially if the nights are cool.
Bet you will love subsequent blooms on this one. Very bold colors.
A stand out for sure.
