Last year my attempts at sharing the hillside bloom did not work out as I had hoped. Life, with all its complications, both good and bad simply got in the way. I will attempt to make up for it this iris season.

The poor garden had a rough winter. Actually it has had three rough winters in a row. Little snow cover, wildly fluctuating temperatures and heavy rains have taken a toll. Many of the larger patches of historics that were flourishing are down to single digits....On a positive note though, that has left room for some newer additions.... Whistling

Making progress!

Checking the log books from past years shows that this season is off to a somewhat earlier start. The regular first bloomers have all made their normally scheduled appearances.

De Nile 2012 Arilbred by Brad Kasperek

I am always impressed by this one. I have had it for several years and it seems happy in the front garden. One of the first to bloom each year and holds the bloom for a long time. Stands up to cold, rain and heat and looks beautiful!

Raspberry Swirl 2009 Sutton

One of the first TBs to bloom on the hill. I added this last year to check the ID of a mystery NOID. Not a match, but I will keep this one! Good substance and has held up well to all the weather that has been thrown at it!

Very impressive hillside and 3 beautiful irises to open your season. I especially like the colour on De Nile. Thumbs up

Looking forward to seeing what else will bloom for you. I'm all ears!

Thanks everyone! And especially to Debra and Monty for the acorns!

Robin the hill is so rocky that I had to do something with them. Sticking tongue out

I won't have all the large patches of bloom, but there are lots of individual iris in bud. Saves me a trip up on the roof this year!

Not raining today so headed out shortly to turn horses out and see what has opened in the garden.

This week the weather is beautiful, last week it was either hot or raining and the week before that we had freezing temps at night. Needless to say the iris are a little dazed and confused.

Thumb of 2019-05-21/Snork/875b69

And cold!

Many of the first buds on the iris froze...insert shivering emoji... Luckily many others did not.

Love the colors in this early bloomer. Another NGA trade. Second picture is a chimera, most likely the result of our untimely cold snap.

He did when he was younger! These days, as a vintage model, he pretty much follows me around like a shadow. He is 20. He doesn't hear much anymore and MEEEEOOOOWS loudly when he can't find his people. Also in the middle of the night. I fear senility is setting in. Our vet is surprised that he is still doing as well as he is, so we will just let him be happy.....until he isn't Sad .

Every day is a blessing! Lovey dubby
