Coleus do better than any other plants on my front porch. All my current coleus are cuttings I saved from last year and they are doing very well. I have one large pot and 3 square pots that I fill with 1 gallon pots, 5 to a pot. Here's a shot of the 4 containers. ![]() Does anyone recognize this little one? It seems to be a slow grower and may get replaced since the others are outgrowing it. I think it came from Gebhart last year. Can't seem to find their website to check it. Think it had Heart in the name. ![]() I also can't remember the name of this green edged one. Know it's a common one. ![]() Pot one ![]() Corner Pot ![]() Fourth Pot ![]() With the little one growing so slowly I feel like the overall look is rather dark even with the Wasabi and Electric Lime. Other ones I know the names of are Florida Sun Jade, Henna, Big Red Judy, Lacelot Velvet Mocha, Super Dukfoot. I also have Aurora Black Cherry Sedona, Spalsh, and Florida Sun Rose in pots in other places. |
not 100% sure but the first looks like fairway rose or defiance .. 2nd could be dipped in wine, or one of the colors of tapestry |
oh they all look happy!!!... good coleus momma!!! |

I visited a local nursery I don't get to very often and purchased 3 new coleus. I wanted something to add some lighter brighter colors and think they will work well. Here's Pistachio Nightmare, one I've been wanting. This ones new to me. Mint Mocha. ![]() And this one is so new it won't be introduced until next year. Honeycrisp. ![]() A close up of Honeycrisp. The back of the leaves are rosy. ![]() Here's the containers with the new ones added. I decided the little one I was trying to ID is Heart. Moved them in front. ![]() |
that mint mocha is fantastic!!! |

I think Mint Mocha is my favorite of all the duck foot ones I've grown. All 3 are large enough that I will take a cutting or two off and start some more pots. All my daylilies and lilies are blooming so early this year that I'm going to have to move coleus pots into the garden area to add more color for July, Aug and Sept. |
the smaller pots are always good fill for later if needed... I hate planting any in the ground the slugs usually have a party and kill them all.. this year we are loaded with them too.. I actually have a container with salt in in.. just been dropping them in when I see them.. so nasty but I didn't want to spread that much salt around the garden.. they are everywhere |

We don't have enough moisture in the ground for slugs this year. I can't believe how dry it is already and it's only June! Watering has become a full-time job. ![]() Karen |
my sister from Ohio was here today.. saying how dry & hot it was there.. can't believe we are milder than you guys.. was cool here today... can't believe she said it was 90 by you.. we had a high of 71.. 61 right now.. almost chilly feeling out there now.. she said she was happy she didn't have all my plants.. to water with the drought you guys are having |

It's been really bad here. At least we did get a good rain a few days ago. 4" at my house, so that will save things for a couple weeks at least. |

We finally got some rain yesterday, 0.3" at my house. With temps staying in the 90s all this week, that 0.3" won't last long. Yesterday's temp stayed in the 80s, but the humidity was near 80%. I tried to do a little deadheading and weeding in the morning, but that humidity was just too oppressive. I was only out there around 20 minutes. I quit. We've only had 0.79" of rain in June. Karen |
wow that's not good.. looks like I will be joining you on Wed.. two more nice days I can enjoy out there |

I should have taken some more photos before I rearranged my coleus pots. With the lack of rain here, most of my daylilies are needing their foliage cut way back and most are done blooming for the season, so I'm moving lots of the coleus pots out to the front to fill in the bare spots. Since I planted 5 coleus in gallon pots and put them in the large square containers, it's easy to take out a couple and use them to fill in along the front sidewalk. Here are the 2 remaining square containers with 3 coleus in each instead of 5 and the large round center container. I think the 3 coleus will really do better being less crowded and will fill in the spaces in a week or so.![]() This is a shot of some of the pots of coleus along the front sidewalk, Once I saw that all my plants were blooming about a month ahead time, I planted some zinnia, cosmos, marigolds and celosia in pots and am slowly moving them to the front area too. Hopefully with the mums and salvias I have and the moss rose and lantanas there will still be color through the next few months and into fall. ![]() ![]() Here you can see how bare some areas would be without the coleus. ![]() The Heart coleus I started from cuttings are still small, but are tolerating being in full sun in the 105 degree heat fairly well. ![]() |
