I started this thread because I will have many to show as they bloom during the next six weeks or so. Many are crosses are from older name cultivars and unnamed crosses that I obtained over time by a whole variety of means--including snooping around peoples yards at estate and rumage sales, farm actions, etc. Some I have already posted on threads: 'June 2012 lilies' and 'Photos of lilies started from seed' Not all of them are pretty--and, I'm not the best photographer but I'll put them up for better or worse for knowledge background and and hopefully enjoyment too. Now, lets hope it doesn't hail. I'll start posting here later today. Anyone else have an iinteresting 6 they've obtained (non-comercial) or that you've crossed with older cultivars, please add. |

I like those dark reverses. ![]() Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket? |

Hi Molby: I like dark reverses, too. To me, I think they can be the prettiest part of the flower (and I'm not the only one who thinks that). Sometimes, too, I see beauty in a bud that I think is prettier than the flower itself. I've been taking pictures of buds last couple years and hope to someday put together a slide show. Problem is, it's hard to get good detail closeups--just like Connie says it is about stem detail. Here's another Redgoldina X Mission Chimes that's different. It produces two different flower forms and colors on the same plant. Picture 1 shows typical trumpet form with a green brown reverse with a green mid rib. It has a dark style/stigma and longer pedicel then example #2. Picture 2 shows a slighter shorter 'fat body' style that has a brown red reverse and brown redish mid rib. It has a shorter pedicel and greyish style/stigma. No beauty, front or back--just something one doesn't see everyday. ![]() ![]() |

You sure have a good eye, I probably wouldn't have noticed the difference. Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket? |
A group of these planted together with their differing reverses would look pretty sharp, in my opinion. |

Just wait a couple days Connie-- the 'good stuff' is yet to come! Pretty busy time here with the heat and dryness added in the mix of work. |

Keeping ALL the records straight is my biggest grief. Lots of possibility for error from seed to photo posting. I ran into two last night that didn't correlate--errors in garden journal and tagging didn't match my computer records of parentage. |

Very nice work Lorn. I am a big fan of reverses also, the reason why I fell in love with Buggy Crazy's 'Awesome'. It's so much more than the inside of a blooming lily, isn't it? The reverse of Fatima X Fan Tan reminds me of the reverse of Awesome a bit. Tracey |
