The weather here has started heating up into the low 90's. Some interesting colors coming on with some of the semps. What are yours doing in the month of July? I love the cool minty green of the crazy semp. Found this one interesting for the way it blooms. This one is doing some strange blooming. Single flowers come out between the grouped offsets. ![]() This one is sure a standout this time of year. |

Only found two that caught my eye when I looked outside this evening: Wirbelsturm ![]() Lemon Sky which still looks good and always catches my eye ![]() |
Bev you are the queen of growing 'Lemon Sky'. I love the watermarks on your 'Wirbelsturm', they are beautiful in purple color. |

I think it's all luck with Lemon Sky. I have killed many in my care: Helen Payne, Lucy Liu, Grunrand, Unicorn, Fat Jack, Neptune, Gluca Minor, etc. The fact that Lemon is still alive is a miracle! |
I believe in miracles. ![]() |

Right now we're spending all of our time out of state getting treatment for my back and neck problems. I'll get pics when we get home again, mid August. Handcrafted Coastal Inspired Art SeaMosaics! |

Karen, Hope you get better soon. I'm on my last PT treatments from the auto wreck. Those guys can work miracles. Kevin |

Thanks, Kevin. I'm glad your PT has helped you a lot. I should be all fixed up when we get back. They did nerve blocks on all my painful areas, and the pain went completely away. Now they are using Radio Frequency Ablation to zap those nerves causing the pain. I've had one lumbar area done, and have no pain or side effects. 6 more areas to go and hopefully I can get back outside to play! Handcrafted Coastal Inspired Art SeaMosaics! |

Karen, So glad to hear. We'll celebrate our recoveries at the clinic in April. If you saw my poor vehicle after the crash, you would think I wouldn't be walking let alone gardening. Kevin |

Thanks, Kevin. You were extremely lucky that your first crash wasn't much worse. Handcrafted Coastal Inspired Art SeaMosaics! |

So, I just added about 8 more semps to my want list seeing all these beauties! I'm not typically keen on aberrant semp forms, but I have to say Semp 'Crazy' has enough consistent regularity to those crazy shape wavy leaves, to reign in asymmetry and present a cool green picture of fun. I'm also working on adding some good all-greens, so this goes on my list. Semp calcareum 'Extra' looks fantastic, and I'm happy that my plant came back from the brink of death over winter and finally looking like it wants to grow. Julia and Bev ----> watermarks, I love them, they add such dimension to the plants. I was pleased to discover only today, that Semp 'Vlado', here in the height of summer and all green currently, has beautiful watermarks in the center, here's a photo from today. I de-chicked this very large rosette for increase (my only "giant" semp currently), and last years chicks grew large enough that they're sending out their own chicks now. Oh my goodness, 'Olivia (II)', Pacific Rosewood, and Pacific Patches are must haves, but 'Tiefgang'...WOW, incredible dark color and a Fibonacci type too, what's not to love. Now a few from today: Top and oblique view of two new semps I got this spring, I think they compliment each other, 'Elvis' on the left (it has Fib leaf spiralling) and 'Karin' on the right, I love it's soft colors and fine fuzziness. ![]() ![]() Four semp varieties in this photo, bottom row left to right is heuffelii 'Inferno' on left, and 'Intensity' on right. To cool it down, two all greens in top row, 'Wax Lyrical' on the left and 'Froschkonig' on the right. ![]() Closer view of a few varieties that I made into a NGA "plant combination" photo: 'Elvis' again on top left, 'Zundflamme' in two pots top right, rich pink 'Magnificum' bottom left, and hot orange 'Casablanca' in two pots bottom right. ![]() Ever so pink 'Virgil Ford', a new arrival just a few days ago. ![]() And last, Semp x nixonii 'Jowan' on the left, and Kevin's awesome 'Pink Lotus' on the right. ![]() Avatar: Jovibarba x nixonii 'Jowan' I use #2 chicken grit to feed my hens & chicks :-) |
Wow Mark, your 'Virgil Ford' is very pink. Lovely. Just have to love that 'Pink Lotus' for it's depth of pink coloring in the spring, then on to a lovely soft pink with green trim. ![]() Your semps are looking wonderful. Hmmm, need to go out and see if my 'Vlado' is chicking. |
