Below every post on the forums there should be a box labeled "Post a reply" ... type your reply in that box and hit "finished" when you are done.

Many miss a lot when they don't scroll down far enough! nodding

For instance, if you want to start a new thread in a forum, like in the Rose forum, you need to scroll all the way down past the list of threads to find that option.

Also, if the thread has more than one page of replies, you have to go to the very last page to get to the "Post a reply" box.

You can also hit the small "Quote" link in the bottom right corner to quote a previous post. Your reply is added to the end of the thread, though, not directly beneath the post you quote.

I do wish more people would realize that they don't have to include the entire post that they're quoting unless they need to. (Sorry. Personal gripe.)

Smiling I agree, especially when the post with numerous photos is included.

I think what confuses so many people here is that by the time they reply to a specific post several other posts have been made.
Then it seems their reply is disconnected to what they wanted to reply to.
Using the quote and editing it seems to help, but also just putting the name of the person whose post you are replying to at the beginning of the reply often makes it clear which post a person is replying to.

Some members may not realize that you can backspace out any text in the quote that you don't need, as well as the photos.

That's why I mentioned it, Lin. However, I don't know how many people follow Site Talk and will see this.

I think it's all a learning experience, especially with old folks like me. Awhile back I happened to notice a quoted post where a bunch of the original post was not included, so the next time I was quoting someone I tried backspacing out the unnecessary stuff like photos and .... voila! Green Grin!

No need to backspace everything out, just highlight and delete. I guess we just need to be careful not to edit out the intended meaning of a post, I can see where editing in a quote could cause a problem.

And be careful not to edit out the beginning or ending of the quote, the code in brackets that creates the quote. I see it often where they use the quote option, remove some of the text but also remove the ending, the [ / quote] section, and that breaks the function.

Good Day Everyone; It's a rainy day in Florida so not outside. Thankful Sandybaham's question about replying came up! Basically, since I joined in May, I've been just viewing all the topics that interest me. This one (LOL) educated me. It's a day for online garden exploring. Enjoy.

Exactly. So what I often wonder is when I get a msg saying that someone else has replied before me (indirect quote), if there's a way to put my post on hold, so to speak, until I've read what got posted before me. Since I don't get the msg. until after I hit 'finish', I don't know where the 'conversation' might be headed. It could have taken a turn.

Plus, if I hit preview to see if I've got typos or just don't quite make sense and need to correct or reword, then I can't see anything other than my preview and my unedited reply.

Yes, it would at least help to include in my post the name of either the OP or whoever I'm specifically replying to. But that still doesn't prevent me from posting what might now be irrelevant or redundant.

Guess my only option after I hit 'finished' is to go back and edit what I had said, or just carry on and let it go.

Edited to add: Joyce, would you please send some rain over my way? It's Drought City' here.

tx_flower_child,
I wish I had read this post a moment earlier being I just received that message, "someone else has replied before me (indirect quote)".
But, I am thinking that if you opened a second window, you could view that person's post before sending yours.

Good point. Might also help if I were a better typist.
