Okay, so I bought some monstera seeds from a Chinese seller on Etsy (I know, I know, bad idea...), knowing there was very little likelihood that the seeds would be legit. But I took the $3.99 gamble...

Here're some pics of the seeds and plant that grew. Any ideas for what it is?

@ceramicmarge

some remarks if you going to order more seeds online
1. It is forbidden as you know to order any plants outside of US
2. If you do it any anyway, here are few tips to get real seeds
It is better to order from Thailand than China ( Better quality, but more expensive). If you order it from China,always look for listing that has seeds are packed in original packing with full name (including Latin name), growing condition, picture ...., like you see here

It is not forbidden that I know of to order plants outside of the US as long as they follow inspection rules. If you are going to order that way, read the negative reviews for the seller. Often times bad sellers have tons of good reviews, because people leave feedback based only on the transaction itself, and the seeds have not grown yet. There are few people who will go back later and give negative reviews to sellers whose seeds were not as advertised. The positive reviews don't really mean anything. In general you are just better off ordering from a legit place to begin with. You may try Bakers Creek, I believe they offer some harder to find varieties and you may call and ask about something you don't see on their site.

Also... do bit research before buying
Like, how the seed would look like.. monstera seeds are quite large, about 1,5 cm x 0,5 cm and fleshy
So, nothing like your seed, that way, you'll know from the start that they have cheat you.
Also beware of seller selling things that is not natives from their area, unless they are trusted company or trusted collector.
I would not buy monstera seed from china... they are tropical and need to be MONSTROUS to poduce DELICIOUS fruits... Hence the name Monstera deliciousa.

Btw...quite long time ago, I bought Monstera deliciousa seed from Tradewindsfruit, a seed company from USA. Bought many seed from them, never a problem. They sell lots of tropical fruit seeds. ( monstera seed are quite recalcitrant, cannot be saved... so their availability is not constant, but they are not too rare, so do check sometime).

Could your seeds and plant be Four o' Clocks? It sort of looks like my four o' clocks seeds and plants.

Please quit buying Chinese products everyone. Unless there is absolutely no alternative. It shouldn't be too hard to find what you need right here in the United States. For certain things, like seeds of Chinese plants, it would be OK, if there are no other sellers of a certain species; but I'm pretty sure that you could buy Monstera seeds from suppliers in the U.S. Then there would be less of a stranglehold that China has on the United States of America right now

Are these all being made in China now too? U.S. flags ☟
